Comunity |

Friends
and photographers galore converged on Obscura on 22nd
April, for the opening of Arvid Nicolas’s inspirational
new photo studio and gallery. A talented and enterprising
photographer, Arvid made his name initially through
his fashion and commercial images, and more recently
through the visual documentation of his extensive travels.
Well-known in Bali, his remarkable photographs have
appeared in numerous publications and a collection of
his framed prints now grace the walls of his gallery.
Obscura, however, is not just a place for Arvid’s
work. The fully equipped professional studio is available
for rent on a daily basis. Visiting and resident photographers
will have use of a sophisticated lighting system, backdrops,
tabletops, and adjoining meeting rooms, together with
the services of an assistant. |
|
The gallery,
meanwhile, will host rotating exhibitions of photography
and 2-dimensional, mixed media, visual and digital
art. Anyone who is interested can arrange an exhibition
of their work, making the facility a great jumping
board for young photographers and newcomers to the
island. Furthermore, Obscura will host functions,
courses, seminars and workshops in the field of photography,
together with photo trips to the far reaches of Bali
and beyond. Also on offer is a photography information
service so that visiting photographers can learn,
for example, where to purchase supplies.
By inviting photographers to get together to share
information and ideas, Arvid’s visionary objective
is to create a photographic community in Bali. |
