The Tallest Ganesha Statue
On February 12, 2006, at the Sri Maha Ganesha Statue Complex at Kalibukbuk Village, Lovina, North Bali, there will be a Balinese Hindu ritual blessing for the largest Ganesha statue in South East Asia. The ceremony, called “Karya Yadnya Pemlaspasan,” will be presented by the International Consortium of the Ganesha Statue (Indra Maharani Foundation and World Hindu Youth Organization) to sanctify the 33 meter high statue.
Ganesha, one of the five prime Hindu deities (besides Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva and Durga), is symbolized by the likeness of an elephant with a curved trunk, big ears, and a large pot-bellied body of a human. He is the son of Shiva and Parvati and beyond being the lord of success and destroyer of evils and obstacles, is also worshipped as the god of education, knowledge, wisdom, and wealth. |
