Things just keep rockin’ along, don’t they? You can’t keep a good man down and all that. Speaking of platitudes, don’t you just love how people always go on about how terrible things are - the end is nigh, it’s all over! Well, I don’t agree with the figures, the miniscule percentages and the hysteria! It’s all good, as they used to say in these parts…

Padi, one of Indonesia’s top bands, was in town last week to play their latest sounds at Kamasutra. Gino popped down to catch up with the lads and came back with ten things you wouldn’t have known about them (page 38).
World music was back in Ubud with a visit from Danish Jazz/World Music group New Jungle Orchestra for one night only with collaboration from Bali’s Semara Ratih gamelan unit. It made for an interesting night’s entertainment for JD (page 40).

We had a disgruntled reader informing us this week of his unpleasant experience at the hands of a local venue’s door security. Not the first time we’ve received one of them and again, we’d like to encourage those in authority to respect everyone’s right to have a good time out and we’d like to hope in the future cool heads equates to cool nights in the nightlife of Bali.
Speaking of which, the History of the Nightlife in Bali story – Kuta versus Seminyak, concludes this week with all the ups and downs in town since October 2002. It was an interesting few years and for people who weren’t here it could give some insight into how this place works (page 44).
Chinese New Year is here this weekend and the Year of the Dog is upon us. Find out what’s in store for you in our Chinese Horoscope (page 50).
