here are several beachfront dining options on the Jl. Arjuna - Pantai Legian strip, but one stands apart…and above the others. Lanai Beach Bar and Grille, named after the Hawaiian word for “terrace,” featrures exactly that - a deck terrace shaded by mature trees with ample table and bale-banquette seating from which to people watch below, sunset view, and select from Lanai’s extensive menu. A menu that boasts an impressive 107 items from South East Asia to Latin America created by chefs Rohim and Sandy Voogt, the latter having 14 years experience behind the burners.
For the early riser, the breakfast can’t be beat. A choice of English “full Monty,” eggs Benedict, or fancy omelet comes with coffee/tea, juice and fresh fruit for a mere 25. And then after a swim or surf lesson, their large portions are guaranteed to sate the hungriest of appetites - sandwiches on house baked bread, burgers, thin-crust pizza, and salads (from Nicoise to Thai beef), all freshly made. Lanai also features a monthly specials and tapas menu to satisfy every ethnic indulgence. Authentic chicken enchiladas, Thai Panang curry, an excellent Mezze dip selection, and homemade apple pie were on special in September, while their tapas selection highlights Asian specialties from Vietnamese summer rolls to chicken pandan to delectably seasoned and not too greasy Thai fish and prawn cakes. Most of the above are priced between 20-30.
As the dinner hour rolls around, reservations are recommended as table space fills quickly and lines become common. Check out the selection of starters including authentic Mexican nachos and quesadillas, crispy spring rolls, and seared ahi tuna, and then move onto BBQ dinner with surf and turf options such as grilled steak, mahi mahi, or prawns. And then, if feeling an exotic sweet tooth coming on, try the black Russian tart or the coconut-ginger panacotta. Live band entertainment plus DJs are also featured at Lanai 4 nights a week with a “Cabaret Chill” night on Monday, the “Fatamorgana” reggae band on Thursdays, Salsa Saturdays, and Sunday night jazz fusion with “Soulmate.”
Whether it’s for the pleasant deck atmosphere, the large selection of menu choices and generous portions, or the live entertainment, Lanai raises the standards above the rest.
