editorial ...

We'd like to offer our condolences to all the victims and families of victims of the tragic events of last Saturday night in Kuta and Jimbaran. May They Rest in Peace

Sunday morning is when we have to finish The Beat. Last night, Saturday, we were in the office when we received word of the Kuta Square bombings. As what happened three years ago, the information came in slowly as to the extent of the terrorist attack and while we contacted loved ones like everyone else in town, and our reporters, who had gone out that night to cover stories, a reminiscent foreboding set in. We have to put this magazine out this week without knowing the full extent of this tragedy. Anything can happen in a day and within a week on this island and we hope that all is clear by the time this edition hits the streets. We apologize if in some way we haven't covered these tragic events adequately.

We already had this edition almost 100% finished by last Saturday night and we decided to keep it more or less the same in the hope that, in an example of life going on, the beat and Bali goes on, too. One story, in particular, about the third anniversary of the first Bali Bombings has been printed in its original entirety. We feel that that memorial park site now, more than ever, is of great importance to us all and the future memories of victims to terrorism. We hope that the memorial park soon will be become a reality.

From death, destruction and mayhem comes new life, hope and peace. We have lived through very similar and worse events before and have seen that it is by no means the end of the world. We are sure that all civilized people of the world hope these criminals will be caught and brought to justice very soon and life again will be back to normal. Ed
