Club Eighties Bringing Back the 80’s

On Friday, September 23rd, Kamasutra was sucked into a time warp, zapping all its customers back to the 80’s with a performance from Jakarta’s retro musical marvels, Club 80’s. Band members Lembu, Vincent, Cliff, Desta, and Ytonk display an obvious affinity with the era of A-Ha, Duran Duran, batwings, drainpipes, rubiks cubes and the moonwalk as evidenced by their sound and style when they performed for the 200+ audience at the Jl. Pantai Kuta venue. Their set of original numbers rocked the crowd, especially their track “Gejolak Kawalu Muda” (Youngster’s Desire) which created a bit of a “dance a-go-go” feel. Their only cover version was “Kugadaikan Cintaku” (I Pawn My Love) by the late 80’s icon Gombloh, which brought the audience back to the days when it was a famous jingle on local TV. Inspired by the eighties they may be, but their music is very much their own.
