On entering the cavernous interior of Buddha Belly, the first thing that strikes you is its depth: lights, tables and graphite paving stones recede into the distance and the glassed off billiard tables on each side sit in silent luminescence. It reminded me of a London train station – the space, mind you, not the décor.
Owner Cen Cen Kurniawan designed Buddha Belly himself and he’s done a great job. Dining takes place at intimate, low set tables with lounge seating, running either side of a central strip planted with bamboo. Shades of graphite and coal are offset by red accents, while a huge screen dominates the front bar, all of it reflected off the floor to ceiling glass that encases the gaming tables. There’s even a glass floor beneath which Buddha Belly’s wine cellar will soon be visible.
Chef Rohan, formerly at The Champa in Jakarta, has created a pan Asian menu with fusion elements, featuring dishes from Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia and more, including a good selection of tapas.
If you’re planning a party or event, Buddha Belly is an interesting choice, offering as it does a sophisticated environment, quality food and of course, fun and games to boot.
Billiard Tables are charged at 35 per hour. There are two lunch set menus at 49,9 & 65 plus a happy hour menu between 3-7pm with dishes at 10++ Tuesday is girls night with free billiards for the ladies. For more information, call Buddha Belly on (62) 361 762599
