Having made her mark with Acid Jazz outfit The Groove, Rieka Roslan has just released a solo album entitled Mata Ketiga (Third Eye). She dropped into Jazz Bar & Grill in Sanur last Sunday 26 June to promote her debut, which is inspired by the sounds of Brazil. Starting off with a couple of classics, she then moved on to her own material. Ably backed by Coco Quartet plus special guest percussionist Ciminato Philippe from France, Rieka created a smooth Latin vibe with Samba and Bossa infused songs. She managed to build a strong rapport with the Sunday Jazz regulars and even had them singing along…which all goes to show, the girl got her own groove goin’ on. Jun++
