The Shine Of Golden Algae

Navicula were formed back in 96, and were regular shows through 2002-2003 at the Beat Rock Fest. And now? Surprise-surprise, they just signed a massive contract with Sony-BMG Indonesia for their debut album Alkemis (Alchemist). Puttinga on a wicked live show at Hard Rock Café on the 1st of June to launch Alkemis, “older Bro” Superman Is Dead and Rockabilly hero “The Hydrant” gave full on back up, while the Bali underground dressed in gothic black went crazy in the moshpit. The popularity of all three was reflected in the “sing a long” to tracks like “Kuta Rock City” and Navicula’s grunge-tronic songs like “Supremasi Rasa” and “Kali Mati” The latter addresses the environmental problems Bali’s been facing lately, showing that Navicula are a conscious band. Robbie’s vocal style veers between deep roars and soft murmurs (think Radiohead’s “Creep”). At the end of the night, the band members, plus Lolot (ex SID guys who formed a new band and just scored a music award) dropped an impromptu jam session on the stage...and pretty soon there was a happy riot going on //gino++
