Bali Fashion Week 6 Finale

From June 5 - 8, models, fashion designers, retailers, and assorted glitterati from Indonesia and abroad gathered in Kuta, Bali to celebrate The 6th Annual Bali Fashion Week. This glam event, which took place at the Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel and adjacent Discovery Shopping Mall, continues to put Bali on the couture circuit.

The grand finale kicked off with a spectacular fashion/dance performance by the Jember Fashion Carnival of East Java. It was the perfect remedy for the schedule lags that often accompany such events. Another light moment during the middle of the show provided a spontaneous break from the catwalk monotony as the model on parade broke her heel in mid-stride, and without missing a beat, abandoned the other shoe and coolly continued her strut. Much to the delight of the audience, who then applauded her haute manoeuvre.

Minor annoying technical difficulties continued to plague the event, but ultimately did not detract from the final presentation as the show’s international designers: Russia’s, Daria Razumikhina; Romania’s, Catalin Batezatu; and Malaysia’s, Melinda Looi, displayed their collections ranging from the ethnically baroque to the elegantly minimalist. Local favourites Oka Di Putra, Ali Nasrullah, Putu Aliki and others also made a strong impression. Perhaps the only missing elements were the FTV cameras (which had been promised) and the paparazzi flashbulbs.// Rifi/G-Force
