Two weeks ago at Gaya Fusion of Senses, a quite unusual and remarkable opening exhibition, “Acts of War” by the native Kuwaiti artist Hamad Khalaf, took place.
The Opening on Friday 3rd June brought to Ubud a lively crowd that we haven’t seen for quite sometime… and Hamad had successfully managed to surprise all of us, with a gallery space filled with colorful paintings, fascinating installations, beautiful sculptures, and stunning wearable art.
The artist has developed and built a strong, unique concept over the years that combine two dominant themes: War & Greek Mythology.
Collecting war objects after the liberation of Kuwait and hand painting them in a style similar to ancient Greek pottery, the artist’s interests lay in the “reality & historical context connected to the military objects”.
If “Acts of War” can be seen as a serious historical & realistic exhibition, then it also reveals a very subtle sense of humor of the artist … and with that stated, I certainly refer to the different mythological scenes represented in a new erotic nature.
“What do Achilles & Osama have in common?” if you want to know …you better go and check out “Acts of War” by Hamad Khalaf.
The show will run until July 3rd.
