Now this was no drag show and there was no miming. Instead, five handsome macho-looking dudes took it in turns to demonstrate their personal flair in the field of singing, dancing and musical ability. It was potentially a terrifying ordeal; each contestant ran the risk of public humiliation as the judges maintained the right to bang the gong and dismiss them from the stage if the performance was not up to scratch. Nevertheless, the audience proved to be both shrewd and highly influential in the final decision, and the best man surely won.
