Andrew Wellman – It’s
A Beautiful Day
@ Biasa Gallery |

While
Andy Warhol had a fondness for depicting rows of Campbell’s
Soup or Marilyn Monroes in his art, you are more likely
to find blissed out Buddhas printed on old T-shirts or
rice sacks, boxes of incense and antique Vespas populating
Andrew Wellman’s canvases. He paints the things
that surround him, the things that make him feel good,
which also include classic cars, surfing, the female form,
Pernod, Zorro and Stella (the dogs who share his house
with him) Elvis and The Beach Boys.
This is art for everyone – buy a real Andrew Wellman
and often you’re buying something you can play with
– a painting made up of smaller canvases, so if
you fancy a chance you can swap all the pieces around
like a jigsaw puzzle.
The upcoming exhibition at Biasa Gallery, one of the most
respected galleries in Seminyak, focuses on Surfing and
Women. As well as featuring big canvases, Andrew has made
pocket size original reproductions in a bid to make his
art even more accessible. If you can’t afford a
major work, you can still go home with something small,
beautiful and perfectly formed for a fraction of the cost.
The exhibition opens on 22 December 2004 and runs
until 31 January 2005
