Kudeta
celebrates 4 years in style
Among the many nice things about Kudeta is its sense
of space, no matter how many beautiful people cram through
its doors. Such was the case last Saturday night as the
perfectly manicured lawns swelled with revellers sensing
the onset of high season and a quality party as Kudeta
celebrated four years of standard setting in Bali.
The evening’s entertainment started with a cocktail-lounge
flavoured performance by the multi-talented Christine
Anu, who entertained diners as they settled back with
their cigars and after dinner drinks. She appeared a little
lonesome out there in the middle of the swimming pool
area searching for a stage but being the performer she
is, carried it off with pizzazz.
She came back on for a second set about an hour later
and with more people arriving and the drinks sliding fast,
the crowd warmed and Miss Anu warmed with them. She put
on a delightful performance which was followed by a lavish
sequence of shows including fireworks, white butterfly
go-go dancers (and later Japanese school girls) with beats
from Billy The Kid and Donni 1. The highlight of the show
was the cutting of the fourth birthday cake with all the
Kudeta staff singing in unison with fireworks in the background
to the beach.
By one in the am, the specially set up dance deck was
a thronging mass of ecstatic hedonism, shot through with
lasers and a mist of smoke from the smoke machine. Two
big screens were showing the cult French nature film Microcosmos,
depicting giant stag beetles and all manner of other beesties
looming large in the night. The party and evening at Kudeta
was reminicient of the Nyang Nyang parties of old.
Effortlessly hip as ever.
