WAYANG WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL
It’s a monthly festival chosen by Kafe Wayang to
develop public appreciation of the wide variety of world
music especially Bali based world music groups such as:
Balawan & Batuan Ethnic Fusion, Saharadja, Banjar
Teratai Capung, Planet Bamboo/Duotones and others. Some
of them have been playing world music worldwide. Saharadja
-for example- is still in South Africa for their tour
until end of July 2004.
Wayang World Music Festival 2004 will be held once in
a month every Friday on 2nd week of the month starting
from July until December 2004 and will feature different
world music groups each month.
For the first program on Friday, 9 July 2004 Balawan and
Batuan Ethnic Fusion will perform with their new original
songs. This performance is a pre-tour concert before they
perform at MADQuarter in Jakarta on March 2005.

Double Six Grand Opening
The all new Double Six Club holds its Grand Opening with
a week long fest of international music events. It starts
on Friday July 9 going thru to Saturday July 17.
Drum and Bass is the big winner as Aphrodite and DJ Rap
come to get us jumping on the dance floor. The Official
Grand Opening of the new Double Six Main Room is on the
Saturday. A number of different shows have been lined-up
for this major event. During the week a select group of
International DJs will be taking hold of the decks in
the Main Room and the new VIP Lounge. Jim Breeze will
be resident DJ in the new room for the next two months.

Aphrodite is back from the UK spinning some outrageous
Drum and Bass on the Friday night. He was at 66 for a
memorable Tuesday night event last year which took out
the ‘Best Dance Music Gig’ at the Beat Awards
for 2003. The music’s different - it’s kind
of jump, groove, bounce and fun. Not your heavy deep sounds
here. And it’s all about grooving and having a good
time. Aphrodite is one of the world’s masters of
this genre of music and Drum n Bass rocks! Double Six
and the punters should be honored to have the return of
Aphrodite to their shores whose last album sold over 100.000
copies. No mean feat for any dance music album.
Hu’u bar - nocturnal @ huu when life begins after
dark, DJ Dave Tan aka Hook (Singapore)...takes you on
a progressive trip spinning sets from house, to jazz to
hip hop to rare grooves and funk, expect high energy groove
all night long!...from 11pm.
Hu’u Bar once again fires up for summer with another
chilled out affair moving into higher gear as the night
goes on. Always good vibe at this place in Oberoi.

Lex Empress from Holland is back again playing the 66
VIP Lounge with her MC and Live PA. She knocked ‘em
for six last time she was here and sure to put on great
show again. Later in the Main Room ‘Slacker’
from the UK takes the decks. Slacker is Shem McCauley,
a veteran DJ and producer who has worked with the likes
of James Brown, Grace Jones, Sister Sledge, Boy George
and many others. He’s produced many club mixes like
Bedrock’s ‘Voices’, Junkie XL’s
‘Zerotomine’, Moby’s ‘In This
World’. Expect an exciting display of the latest
breakbeat and progressive sounds with this visitor. Graham
Gold from the Ministery of Sound, UK will also be giving
a hand with the aid of Jeffree Atizado from Canada.
Being the Grand Opening, watch out for a lot of fun and
surprises as Double Six takes us on to new horizons in
their 21st Century State-of-the-Art Clubbing venue.

A big magician from Jakarta is on the way to entertain
with his bizarre gothic show. A dark and mysterious night

LOS PANIMALES
Hard Rock Hotel Bali 12th – 17th July 2004
Los Panimales, a steel band from Australia will
perform at Hard Rock Hotel Bali, from 12th to 17th July
2004.
Steel Bands originate from the Caribbean nations of Trinidad
and Tobago. Through an evolution of form, the steel drum
– or pan – became a percussion instrument
capable of providing not only rhythm, but melody as well.
Los Panimales, a steel band fronted by Denis Gonzales,
is based in Sydney, Australia. Denis, who was born in
Trinidad & Tobago, has performed with various steel
bands in Caribbean, Micronesia, South America, Europe
and Australia before forming Los Panimales with his three
friends: Johann ‘Junior’ Jones on drums, Simon
Olsen on bass, Lypso Abaul on steel drum & vocals,
and his daughter, Yasoda Gonzales. Catch their unique
performances over five days at Centerstage [evenings]
and Sand Island [afternoons], Hard Rock Hotel Bali, Kuta.

Another Drum and Bass performer and special gig are on
the way. DJ Rap from the UK is well-known as the ‘Queen
of Drum and Bass’ and as well as being one dishy
looking gal, she’s also a singer, songwriter, recording
artist, superstar DJ, producer, mixer, label owner and
actress. One busy girl! During the nineties Rap produced
a number of Jungle tracks [now considered club classics]
that reached the top of the charts. Signed to Sony records,
Higher Ground subsidiary she released her first album
in 1999 called Learning Curve which has sold quarter of
a million copies to this date. In 2000, she released a
DJ Mix Compilation, Brave New World and her greatest hits
album, Proper Classics a year later. She’ll be aided
by DJ MC Pab from Australia on a big night of Drum and
Bass.

Element has been around for a while and have that classic

TSUYOSHI is back again to show us all that Psychedelic
Trance is alive and well. DJ Tsuyoshi Suzuki has been
at the forefront of the global psy trance revolution since
its beginnings in the early nineties. He’s toured
extensively through the world playing gigs in New York’s
Twilo, Tokyo’s Liquid Room, the Burning Man Festival
in Arizona, Berlin’s Love Parade, just to name
a few. We saw him last year playing a couple of gigs and
no kidding, he took the lid off. He’s the Psychedelic
Trance Man!
